knock on wood (film version)
The short film version of Talia’s piece knock on wood was filmed by Harvard ’27 student Giselle Paulson in the Office for the Arts at Harvard’s Directors Studio in the spring of 2024.

April 2024 the knock on wood short film was my first time working with the immensely talented Giselle Paulson, who also worked with me on my short film mirage. Giselle’s eye for detail is amazing, as she would watch the dancers do a phrase once and know exactly what angles and locations to film from. it was so neat for me to see how my choreography looked from the camera – in concert dance, you don’t really have control over what the audience sees, whereas when you are editing a dance film your choices of what is included in the final form have to be a lot more intentional. this was such a fun experience and inspired me to want to create more films in the future. i’ve always been a firm believer that dance is not only multidimensional, but multimodal and interdisciplinary as well, and it was truly inspiring to see Giselle and the dancers’ and I’s mediums in collaboration in real time.
